MLD Celebrates 20th Anniversary

This year, MLD is celebrating its 20th anniversary in the video equipment rental business. That’s right, 20 years of dedicated support and exceptional service for your shoot. In keeping with MLD’s tradition of having the best equipment coupled with the best support and price, we are happy to announce that for the month of August, we’re offering 15% off of all COD orders. Call one of our rental coordinators today to schedule your shoot!

Twenty years is a long time in this business. We’re quite proud of reaching this milestone, considering MLD’s humble beginnings. We started out way, way back in 1987 with a single Betacam, a simple plan, and just enough equipment to fill the back of an SUV. As we began to grow, we listened to our customers needs and slowly built up the formidable inventory of cutting edge equipment that we currently offer. Our plan, during this time, was simple yet effective. Combine the best-kept gear with outstanding technical know-how, and support the customer from shoot to wrap. Over the years, there have been some highlights that we’re especially proud of. Let’s take a look at them:

April, 1987—MLD, with fingers in the production world, figures it to be cheaper and possibly profitable to purchase it’s own video equipment, and rent it out during its downtime. MLD purchases its first camera location package consisting of a Sony BVP 505 camera, Sachtler tripod, Sony ECM 77 microphone, Mole-Richardson 4 head light kit, and a Sony 8041 8” color monitor. The company operates out of a garage in Bedford, TX.

August, 1987—With business growing, MLD re-invests in itself by moving operations to a small facility off of LBJ freeway.

February, 1990—Once again, due to a growing inventory and customer base, MLD relocates to a larger facility, a 2000 sq. ft. space in Euless.

December, 1995—MLD is fully loaded with a wide array of NTSC video gear to support its many ENG/EFP shooter clients. Using the DFS 700, MLD offers the SDI multicam flypack, and successfully supports many live multicam productions for various Fortune 500 companies and other associations.

December, 1995--In addition to the ever-growing inventory and company, MLD moves once again to its present location, a 9000 sq. ft. facility, located at 2626 Brenner Drive, in Dallas, TX.

January, 2000 –With an eye towards the future of HDTV, MLD enters the High Definition age with the purchase of both Sony F-900/3 and Panasonic Varicam cameras, as well as an array of HD monitors and support items. MLD quickly becomes known for in the HD world what we were known for in the SD world—excellent gear, superior service, and competitive prices.

August, 2003—Sony and MLD partner up for a Sony F900/3 training seminar at MLD’s facility. Many of the regions top HD professionals attend the seminar, learning the ins and outs of this camera.

November, 2003—Due to the huge success of the Sony F900/3 seminar, MLD pairs up with Panasonic to have a Varicamp—a seminar on the Panasonic Varicam. Once again, MLD offers up their venue, and helps educate its clients on HD and 720p shooting.

November, 2003—MLD receives criticism via fax from a non-plussed competitor for not overcharging our clients on HD cameras. Our competition cringes, our clients cheer!

March, 2006—Proving to be groundbreakers in the HD realm, MLD assists Greene HD with a 2-day, nine camera (2 Sony HDC 1500’s and 7 Sony F900/3’s) live concert shoot for veteran indie rock stars, Nine Inch Nails. MLD helped with the technical and logistical engineering of the shoot, and provided Greene HD with unparalleled support during the shoot. Nine Inch Nails Live-Beside You In Time, was premiered in Los Angeles, CA to rave reviews, and is widely considered the first 30p concert shot and released on Blu-Ray.

December, 2006 –MLD reloads again, revamping our inventory with over a quarter of a million dollars’ worth of new HD gear added to our nearly 2 million dollar inventory. HDV cameras? Check our Sony Z1-U, Sony V1-U and Panasonic HVX 200’s. HD cameras? Sony F 900/3 and Panasonic Varicams. HD VTR’s? We have the Sony HDWF-500, the Panasonic AJHD 1400 and 130. HD Monitors? From 9” CRT to 50” Plasmas, to the new Astro 6” LCD waveform/vectorscope combo, you are covered. Check our website for a full inventory, or call one of our knowledgeable rental coordinators or engineers to get the information you need to make your next shoot a success!
