Tiffen Linear Polarizer is used to select which light rays enter the camera lens. by removing unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, or glass.  It also helps saturate colors for better contrast.  This is accomplished by eliminating ultraviolet rays, which in turn removes haze from outdoor shots without affecting overall color balance. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
